4 Skin and Eco-Conscious Beauty Brands You Should Try

Whether you’re a beauty guru or a makeup minimalist, your bathroom beauty counter consists of products that contain a lot of ingredients. But do you know what those ingredients are? How about how they can affect your internal health through skin absorption?

In an ideal world, we would rely solely on natural plants and nutrients from food for our beauty routines. But let’s be real, even someone as consumption-conscious as myself loves a multi-step skincare routine and occasional face beat.

There’s an in-between, a way for us to consume beauty products in a way that doesn’t damage our health or the environment. That is done by becoming a more conscious consumer.

A conscious beauty consumer know what’s in her products. She knows about the brand she is supporting with her financial dollars. She knows their philosophy, their product sourcing, and their stance on diversity and inclusivity. She pays attention to what they are doing to help or hurt the earth. She knows that they give a damn about her health.

Scroll down to check out 4 beauty brands that are on my radar. At the end of the post I’ve listed two resources that I use each time I purchase a new beauty product. Ladies, let’s give a damn!

Beauty Counter

Simply put, Beauty Counter is a brand that I trust to give a damn about my health. They have an extensive range of makeup and skincare products that leaves skin with a natural and healthy glow. The biggest thing I love about this brand is the responsibility they voluntarily take on for consumer education and advocacy.

Responsibly sourced ingredients, including mica, which is commonly sourced using child labor and in conditions which endanger workers. Beauty Counter also has a short documentary to educate consumers about mica

Lip Gloss in the Blush Shimmer shade. It’s gives a subtle pink tint that pairs well with light brown skin tones.

W3ll People

W3ll People (pronounced “well people”) is a brand that recently popped onto my radar during one of those Target shopping trips where you go in for trash bags and walk out with $100 worth of makeup. Target has made its beauty and skincare section so organized and easy to shop, especially if you are looking for clean beauty.

While I am attracted to the brand and the authentic non-toxicity of their products, I’ve fallen in LOVE with the finished looks I can create. Clean beauty is known to provide that healthy, barely there natural look. But some days I want that Rihanna Fenty Beauty glow!

With W3ll People you can literally have your eco/skin health-conscious brand plus products that you can actually do a subtle face beat with.

Brand Highlights:

Sustainable Packaging

Founded by a team that includes an elite makeup artist with former experience with NARS brand

Plant-Based, non-toxic, cruelty free products

Premium products that are more affordable than traditional high-end products

Products work well on brown skin tones

Raww Cosmetics

Raww Cosmetics is an Australia-based beauty brand that I discovered while living in Melbourne. Their products excite me so much because of the organic superfood ingredients! I feel like I am literally feeding my skin fresh fruits and vegetables when I use Raww products.

Evolu Skincare

The Southern Hemisphere should not be slept on when it comes to quality beauty products! Evolu Skincare is an ethical skincare brand from New Zealand that boasts high quality ingredients and high sustainability standards. Not gonna lie, I especially love this brand because it’s easy for me to convince my Caucasian-Kiwi boyfriend to moisturize when the products come from his homeland!

When I try new skincare products I try to use them exclusively for a few months to monitor changes in my complexion. I can say that my skin has never glowed more naturally than it has since I’ve been using Evolu.

Thanks for taking the time to read about some of my favorite beauty products, that just so happen to be pretty easy on the Earth.

While different products work for different skin concerns, I hope that we can all make the effort to select products that are non-toxic to our bodies and to the environment!

Here’s some resouces & things to look out for when selecting the contents of your beauty counter!

The Never List™ is made up of more than 1,800 questionable or harmful chemicals that we never use as ingredients in our products. This includes the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, plus additional chemicals screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern. Beauty Counter offers a downloadable, pocket sized version of this list that is easy to reference while you are shopping for products.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a downloadable Healthy Living app that helps consumers make healthier, sustainable product choices. Not every product on the market is listed in the database, but you can search many products and receive scores that let you know if the product contains toxic or safe ingredients. The app will even recommend beauty products that are better for you.

Drop a comment below if you have any favorite vegan, plant-based, non-toxic, or sustainable beauty brands that you love. And don’t forget to share this post with your fellow beauty mavens to protect their health!
